Outcomes of Frontalis flap suspension in severe ptosis in a tertiary hospital.

AIM
To study functional and cosmetic outcomes and complications of levator and frontalis muscle advancement flap technique in cases of severe ptosis.
DESIGN
Retrospective, non randomized, interventional case series.
METHOD
15 patients were studied. Main outcome measures were postop MRD1, Lagophthalmos, symmetry, checked at 1 month, 3 month and 6-month interval. Frontalis flap with double-threaded prolene was used to correct severe ptosis in these patients.
RESULTS
Good results achieved in most patients (91.4%). The mean preop MRD1 was -1.14+/- 1.56mm, which improved to 3.93+/- 0.52mm with an average lagophthalmos of 0.91+/- 0.74. The overall recurrence rate was in 3 cases. Few complications like incomplete closure (2 cases), overcorrection (1 case) was noted. Corneal exposure, exposure keratitis, infection, wound problems, and supratarsal sulcus obliteration were not observed.
CONCLUSION
Levator and Frontalis muscle advancement flap technique is effective in correcting severe ptosis.
