An Unusual Case of a Post-Traumatic Retained Periorbital Foreign Body :A near miss
Introduction:the presence of periocular foreign bodies continues to be a diagnostic challenge Case report:a 28-year-old man presented with a history of swelling below left eye since 4 days. History revealed patient had trauma, while climbing a coconut tree due to fall of a branch of the same tree,after which he had removed a wooden stick from the area.On examination,a swelling of size 1.5X1cm firm swelling is noted without any entry wound or scar. Diagnosis:inspection and palpation suggested presence of foreign body in periocular area,most probably wooden stick. Procedure: Exploration with an incision of length 2cm below medial canthus done and removed a wooden stick of size 1.5 cm. Outcome:The patient recovered after surgery and a course of antibiotic therapy.The unique features of this case include trajectory and absence of any entry wound or scar.Here we aim to highlight the importance of high degree of suspicion in cases of injuries with Wooden Foreign Bodies.
