The association between Serum Vitamin D level and Vernal Keratoconjunctivitis(VKC) in children
The association between Serum 25-hydroxy Vitamin D level and Vernal Keratoconjunctivitis(VKC) in Children. Purpose:VKC is recurrent allergic inflammation. As Vitamin D levels are deficient in spectrum of allergic conditions like rhinitis,this study aims to investigate the association of serum Vitamin D level and VKC in children. Method and Materials:A prospective study of 6months duration was conducted with sample size of 44 children diagnosed with VKC in tertiary care centre.Complete ophthalmic evaluation was done. VKC was categorized into Mild,Moderate and Severe.Serum Vitamin D level was analysed. Treatment was given in consultation with pediatrician. Results:Out of 44 cases 38-Male 6-Female children,80%(n=35)were aged<10years 90%(40children)had deficient Vitamin D level(<20ng/dl) 10%(4Children) showed insufficient vitamin D level (20-29ng/dl) Conclusion:Findings of study potentially provides insights into prevention and management strategies for allergic conditions like VKC.
