KAP study on refractive error correction methods among undergraduate medical dental and paramedics

AIMS AND OBJECTIVES: To determine the awareness towards refractive error correction modalities among the medical dental and paramedical students.
MATERIALS AND METHODS: A random sampling was applied to choose 450 participants of various courses and data was collected through a structured questionnaire to assess knowledge and practice towards various correction modalities.
RESULTS: 55% participants have refractive errors. About 64.5% had a clear idea between ophthalmologist and optometrist however 35.5% were not aware especially the paramedics. 77.7% had knowledge of contact lenses used instead of spectacles,64.6% knew about its side effects.74% were aware regarding the refractive surgery but 63.4% refused to undergo the surgery and 51.3% were not aware about the side effects.
CONCLUSION:Majority of the students showed considerable knowledge regarding various correction modalities,but an extensive knowledge regarding refractive surgeries and its complications are poor among the students
