NO MONEY!!Why not LRI?Study on role of LRI in correction of moderate astigmatism in cataract surgery

Purpose:To assess the role of Limbal Relaxing Incision in patients with moderate corneal astigmatism during phacoemulsification cataract surgery
Methods:A hospital based study conducted on 30 patients with moderate corneal astigmatism(1-3D)undergoing phacoemulsification. Corneal astigmatism, uncorrected distance visual acuity and best corrected distance visual acuity were recorded pre-operatively, 4weeks and 2months post-operatively.
Results: Statistically significant reduction in the mean corneal astigmatism was recorded from 2.5±0.50D preoperatively to 0.90±0.55D postoperatively in patients with LRI
Conclusion: Combining LRI and cataract surgery in patients with corneal astigmatism is a safe, reliable and predictable option especially in areas where more expensive methods such as toric IOL or laser tools are
not available or affordable. LRI is an excellent tool in reducing the moderate astigmatism
