A CASE OF STURGE WEBER SYNDROME IN A YOUNG MALE POST RIGHT EYE TRABECULECTOMY

PURPOSE:To report a case of Sturge Weber Syndrome with RE secondary infantile open angle glaucoma which was managed with trabeculectomy.
METHOD:A 29 year old male reported for routine follow up after Right sided Trabeculectomy surgery done in 2004, for secondary open angle glaucoma. He had right sided port wine colored lesion on the face. History was taken along with an ocular examination.
RESULTS:On slit lamp examination, Trabeculectomy bleb was seen in the RE, which showed cystic changes. Fundoscopy showed bipolar thinning of disc. Patient also had right sided facial nevus. CT Brain suggested occipito parietal angiomatoses. Patient underwent Trabeculectomy at the age of ten, and has since been maintaining IOP adequately.
CONCLUSION:This case highlights the importance of thorough ocular and systemic examination in cases of Sturge Weber Syndrome for timely intervention. Glaucoma in SWS often requires surgical intervention for long term control of IOP to avoid visual function loss.
