NAVIGATING OPTIC NEUROPATHY : UNIFYING OPTIC NEUROPATHY UNDER A SHARED UMBRELLA
PURPOSE: To evaluate various cases of optic neuropathy who presented to a tertiary eye care hospital . METHODOLOGY: This is hospital based interventional study of patients with Optic neuropathy who presented between April 2023 and June 2023. Detailed history and ophthalmic examination was done. Detailed evaluation showed features of Optic neuropathy. Further MRI Brain and orbits were performed on all patients which confirmed optic neuropathy. RESULTS : Among the 4 patients with optic neuritis, 2 were diagnosed as traumatic optic neuropathy, 1 was diagnosed as neuromyelitis Optica with MOG+, 1 was diagnosed as AAION. Patients were given intravenous methylprednisolone and oral steroids. Improvement in visual acuity was noted. Conclusion : Optic neuritis is inflammation of optic nerve and is classified according to its etiology and fundus findings. Mainstay treatment varies according to etiology, but mainly consists of steroids in most of the non infective cases.
