Cataract

CLINICAL OUTCOMES AFTER IMPLANTATION OF INDIAN TORIC IOLs

AIM: To evaluate clinical outcomes following Indian Toric IOL implantation for cataract with preexisting corneal astigmatism.
METHOD: This prospective study included 22 eyes of 17 patients with preexisting corneal astigmatism >1.5D undergoing phacoemulsification with implantation of Indian Toric IOLs. The UCVA, BCVA, residual astigmatism were evaluated. Toric IOL axis and alignment error measured using slit lamp method.
RESULTS: The mean residual refractive astigmatism was 0.25D at the final follow up of 3 months. The mean alignment error was 3.63degree by slit lamp method. The mean logmar UCVA at 1st postop day was 0.31(SD=0.13),on 7th postop day was 0.2(SD=0.1), on 30th postop day was 0.16(SD=0.13).The mean logmar BCVA at the end of 3 months was 0.13(SD 0.12).
CONCLUSION: We experienced that implantation of Indian Toric IOL is an effective ,safe and predictable method to correct high amount of corneal astigmatism during cataract surgery.
