A STUDY ON USE OF RIPASUDIL 0.4% IN REDUCING CORNEAL EDEMA POST CATARACT SURGERY

PURPOSE: To study use of Ripasudil in reducing corneal edema post cataract surgery.
METHODS: A prospective study was conducted on 30 patients who underwent cataract surgery. Patients who developed corneal edema post-surgery were included in the study. Slit lamp examination was done to detect corneal edema along with examination of visual acuity. Patients were started on Ripasudil 0.4% twice daily for a week.
RESULTS: Study group showed severe-10 cases, moderate-12 cases and mild-8 cases of corneal edema. Post intervention mild-6 cases, trace-16 cases, no edema-8 cases. There was marked reduction in corneal edema post intervention with p < 0.003. There was improvement in logMAR visual acuity from 1.34 ± 0.48 to 0.34 ± 0.11 with p < 0.029.
CONCLUSION: Ripasudil is safe, effective and non-invasive therapy in treatment of corneal edema post cataract surgery. Our study shows improvement in visual acuity and reduction in corneal edema without any side effects.
