24 HOUR AMBULATORY BP PATTERNS AND LIPID PROFILE IN PATIENTS WITH RETINAL VEIN OCCLUSION

PURPOSE-To study the prevalence and pattern of hypertension in patients with retinal vein occlusion (RVO) and association of dyslipidemia with RVO.

METHOD-A cross-sectional study done on 30 newly diagnosed RVO patients were evaluated based on history, ocular examination, 24-hour ambulatory BP monitoring (ABPM) and blood investigations. Data was collected and analyzed.

RESULT-Out of 30 patients 21 (70%) were male and 9 (30%) were females.76% of the study participants have hypertension and 43.3% have dyslipidemia. A significant association was found between RVO and occult hypertension and dyslipidemia(p=0.0015).

CONCLUSION-The study illustrates the importance of 24-hour ambulatory BP recording and lipid profile as diagnostic tool, specifically in patients with RVO. The ABPM provides a more accurate clinical picture with respect to fluctuating reading and translates to the provision of more effective care.
