“ENCOUNTER WITH A SOCIAL STIGMA”

INTRODUCTION: Congenital Dividing Naevus,an uncommon melanocytic lesion in about 2-3% of neonates. There is paucity of literature on this rare anamoly with most knowledge from isolated case reports and series.Hence, discussing a similar case.
Case report: A 37-year-old female presented with pigmented lesion over the left upper and lower eyelid since birth, insidious onset and gradually progressive from past 9 months. On examination visionRE-6/6 and LE-6/12.Anterior segment of right eye was normal and left eye showed severe mechanical ptosis, well defined hyperpigmented plaque over upper and lower lid. Fundus was normal. Punch biopsy reported a congenital melanocytic nevus with no evidence of granulomas or malignancy. Upper and lower lid congenital nevus excision with lid reconstruction was done
Conclusion: Congenital dividing naevus is usually benign and rarely cancerous. However, these lesions should be removed due to the risk of malignancy, psychological stress, and aesthetic flaws.
