PRIMARY MUCINOUS ADENOCARCINOMA OF EYELID : CASE STUDY OF A RARE ENTITY

PURPOSE:To report the clinical profile and outcomes of primary mucinous adenocarcinoma (PMA)of eyelid-a rare entity. METHODS :The demographic data, location of the lesion, treatment and follow up of 3 patients diagnosed with PMA of lids at our hospital was collected methodically and documented. RESULTS:3 patients were included. All were male patients of Asian origin , past their middle age with lesion involving the lower lid.One of the patients, had a previous treatment history with excision biopsy done elsewhere while the others recieved primary treatment with us.We found a sexual predilection for male population and also involvement of lower lid in all.
CONCLUSION : PMA is a rare disease entity and so it is important to do a HPE after excision to reach at a definitive diagnosis.Margin clearance has to be confirmed due to high rate of recurrence, which mandates a strict follow up too.It is important to do IHC & complete systemic evaluation to rule out any cause for metastatic lesions.
