Cataract

Outcome of Minimal Duration Small Incision Cataract Surgery

•	Purpose: To study the effects of minimal duration cataract surgery on the intraoperative time taken, post operative outcomes and patient satisfaction.
•	Methods: It is a hospital based randomized control study which included 50 patients of 40-80 years of age diagnosed with senile immature cataract. All the patients underwent ophthalmological examination and were divided into 2 groups, group 1 were operated by manual small incision cataract surgery and group 2 were operated by minimal duration cataract surgery by eliminating 4 steps of surgery.
•	Results: The average intraoperative time taken for group 1 is more than 15 minutes as compared to group 2 which is 12 minutes and is statistically significant with equal post operative outcome in both the groups.
•	Conclusion: Minimal duration cataract surgery reduces the duration of surgery with better and early healing, better patient satisfaction and thus applicable for large volume of cases.
