Keeping an Eye out for Post Fever Retinitis

Introduction
Post-fever retinitis (PFR) is an infectious or para-infectious uveitis.Here is a case which demonstrates the resolution of retinitis following an episode of fever.
Case report
A 11 year old boy presented with gradually progressive painless diminution of vision in both eyes since 4 months which was preceded by fever with rash lasting for 3 days.Visual acuity was 6/60 in both eyes.Fundus showed macular thickening in both eyes associated with macular star pattern in right eye.OCT showed bilateral macular edema.Infective workup was negetive.A diagnosis of post-viral retinitis was considered and was started on doxycycline & steroid.
There was progressive improvement in the visual acuity and he regained 6/9 vision at the end 5 months.
Conclusion
This case highlights the need for a high index of suspicion to diagnose and treat a case of Post Fever Retinitis for rapid resolution of symptoms and prevention of visual loss.
