The Saga of Secondaries
Unlike primary glaucoma, secondaries behave differently due to the underlying condition playing an additional role to the vagaries of intraocular pressure. The aggressive nature of neovascular glaucoma demands a quick surgical intervention as necessary in order to salvage the eye. Post keratoplasty, angle distortion and long-term requirement of steroids can have a recurring effect on IOP requiring life-long tending to. An oil or gas filled eye can have a stormy postoperative period as can a band or buckle following retinal detachment surgery. A uveitic eye can also have its waxing and waning effect on IOP in accordance with the flare-up of inflammation and prolonged steroid course in these patients. This module aims to discuss the measures one needs to take and be aware of and also anticipate in each of these situations so as to provide a favorable outcome
