ACUTE BRANCH RETINAL ARTERY OCCLUSION (BRAO)  ; CASE REPORT

INTRODUCTION: BRAO is occlusion of branch of central retinal artery. most commonly caused by an embolus due to atherosclerosis, thrombosis or calcified cardiac valves.vasospasm,vasculitis and systemic hypertension are other risk factors
CASE REPORT:A 65y old man came with complaints of sudden diminution of vision in Right eye  since 2 days not associated with any pain and redness of eye. he is a known case of Hypertension since 5 years ,gives history of smoking , half pack per day since 10 years. visual acuity in right eye was 6/18 . anterior segment examination shows pseudophakia in both eyes , posterior segment in right eye shows ischemic retina in supero-temporal quadrant, Fundus  imaging shows opaque  retina in the superior macula . OCT shows thickened hyper reflective inner retina with  posterior shadowing,there are no emboli
CONCLUSION:History of smoking and hypertension are the risk factors for BRAO in this patient.Further  Evaluation is needed to find out exact etiology.
