Diabetic Retinopathy & Medical retina

A descriptive study of association of diabetic retinopathy with diabetic nephropathy.

Aims& objectives: To determine association of DR with DN with dilated fundus examination and RFT and to associate type of DR with DN stage
Materials& methods: Total 27 patients diagnosed with DN divided according to age ,gender, association of stage of DN with grades of DR depending on RFT & fundus examination
Results: Sample of 27 patients comprising 20 males(74.01%) ,7 females(25.09%).Association of CKD with DR as: Stage1(6.7% PDR ),Stage 2(46.66% Mod,13.30% severe NPDR, 6.7% PDR),Stage3(13.3% PDR),Stage 4(6.7% Mod NPDR &6.7% PDR)and AKI as: Stage1(25% mild,8.3% Mod NPDR),Stage2(16.6% mild ,16.6% Mod,16.6% severe NPDR),Stage3(8.33%combined RD,8.33% Mod NPDR).clinical significance observed with more number of cases with CKD& AKI stage2 but was not statistically significant(p value>0.05)
Conclusion: Our study suggests that clinical significant association observed between DR and DN share the same magnitude of disease progression hence pts. with DN needs ophthalmic examination routinely
