STUDY OF NEPAFENAC V/S FLURBIPFOFEN IN MAINTAINING INTRAOPERATIVE MYDRIASIS IN PHACOEMULSIFICATION

PURPOSE:To compare efficacy of topical nepafenac(0.1%)with flurbiprofen(0.03%) in maintaining intraoperative mydriasis during phacoemulsification
MATERIALS&METHODS:This study was performed on 100patients,50were allocated in each group, preoperatively all patients received1drop of tropicamide0.8%+phenylephrine5%,4times at an interval of 15minutes on day of surgery.Thereafter each were given topical nepafenac & flurbiprofen.Vertical&horizontal pupillary diameter was measured immediately before surgical incision, end of nucleus delivery, end of surgery
RESULTS:Pupillary diameter b/w 2groups was statistically insignificant for vertical & horizontal diameter at start of surgery.Whereas after emulsification of nucleus & end of surgery both diameters was statistically significant.Total reduction in pupillary diameter was significantly less in Nepafenac as compared to flurbiprofen
Conclusions:Pre-operative Nepafenac was found to be better than flurbiprofen in maintaining intraoperative mydriasis
