Cataract

CLINICAL OUTCOME OF MANUAL SMALL INCISION CATARACT SURGERY IN PATIENTS WITH LENS INDUCED GLAUCOMA.

Aim:To study the clinical outcome of cataract surgery in patients with LIG.
Methodology: This is a hospital-based prospective interventional study of 50 cases of LIG conducted over a period of 6 months.Visual acuity,IOP,slit lamp examination were done. After medical management, patients underwent lens extraction by manual SICS.Post-operative follow-up was done on day 1,7&1 month.
Result: Majority patients belonged to 5th-8th D with F:M ratio 1.4:1.Pre-op vision in majority was only perception of light& IOP between 30-60mmHg.Most had good vision in fellow-eye due to pseudophakia. Intraoperative complications noted were zonular-dehiscence, anterior capsular calcification & peripheral rhexis runoff which made IOL placement difficult.Post-op visual acuity improved >6/12 in 55%,6/60-6/12 in 32% whereas <6/60 in 12.5% due to aphakia, CME.
Conclusion: Early diagnosis & treatment along with sequential cataract surgery is important for better visual-outcome & prevention of complications like LIG.
