“Visual prognosis in black cataract after small incision cataract surgery”

Introduction: Black cataract always poses challenge to the surgeons. The large nucleus is not only difficult to phacoemulsify but also make the zonules weak leading to chances of Zonular Dehiscence. Whereas, SICS is quiet safe surgery when dealing with intraoperative and postoperative complications.
Purpose:To evaluate visual prognosis following manual small incision cataract surgery in patients with black cataract.
Materials & Methods:A Prospective study was conducted on 90 patients with black cataract for a period of 18 months. The surgical techniques used, intraoperative complications, preoperative and postoperative visual acuity and the causes of impaired visual acuity after surgery were examined. 
Results: Snellens Visual acuity on POD 1 was >6/18 in 85% cases. BCVA after 6 weeks was >6/18 in 98% cases.
Conclusion:Visual prognosis in patients with black cataract was good, after surgery done with proper preoperative assessment and skillful intraoperative modification in the steps.
