Cataract

Intra operative and post operative complications of SICS in eyes with Pseudoexfoliation(PXF).

Purpose
To study intra operative and post operative complications of SICS in eyes with PXF.
Methods
Descriptive study conducted on 50 eyes of 50 patients in tertiary care centre. All patients diagnosed as cataract with PXF underwent SICS with IOL implantation after detailed ophthalmic examination. Intra and postoperative complications were studied. Patients were reviewed up to 3 months postoperatively.
Results
Intra operative complications encountered during surgery were;32(64%)patients had poor mydriasis(<6mm), zonular dialysis in 2cases(4%), PC rent in 2cases(4%), vitreous loss in 1case(2%). Postoperative complications were corneal edema in 4cases(8%). Final BCVA was between 6/6-6/12 in 36(72%) eyes, 6/18 -6/36 in 10(20%) cases; 6/60 to less in 4(8%) cases.
Conclusion
Cataract surgery in PXF patients is challenging. If the surgeon is aware of the condition pre operatively, intra operative complications can be well managed and a good post operative outcome can be expected.
